In downtown Tehran, old houses can still be found although once in a while one of them gives way to new multi-story apartments through demolishing of itself. Good old day!

I've a question; hope you will not mind. Iran is one of the most earthquake-prone area in the world; and, it says that Teheran is waiting for some big catastrophe to happen in that city of 10-12 million people :-(. From your this post and from one of your earliear post and from some other places, it seems like big-storey (atleast 10-storey high) buildings are being constantly made in Teheran. Do you know whether or not the authorities are taking some steps to make sure that those buildings don't collapse during any earthquake?
----------
Mr.Behi says: Actually, this is one of the major concerns. The capital looks very vulnerable towards natural disasters and I hope most of the city will collapse. Government says it does care but I do not see major steps in strengthening older districts of the city. I posted before in the blog that well being of the people according to my experience is not among the top priorities of the government.
I think it's useless to ask this question because without government support these types of projects are not still possible. But, still asking: can the geologists and engineers work together and make a small model or some numerical simulation and present it to the public and the government showing how certain earthquake will affect all the buildings and mountains? Perhaps they can get funding from somewhere to do all these tests, because if any major earthquake happens in Teheran, it's going to affect everybody very badly.
Err..Mr. Behi, sorry I'm asking all these questions instead of commenting on your photos. I hope you know that your photos are very nice and gives me nice glimpse into Iran. Please keep on posting more pictures on Iran, its people, cities, everything. Thank you.
