You got em baby…but what then?

The wired news around this new elected president seems non-stoppable. Now the former hostages of the 1979 embassy crisis are recognizing him as one of the KEY hostage takers! Link

I was two when that big mistake took place but now, people in my age can recognize how shameful that action was against the embassy of another country. You know, even for me, the atmosphere of the early revolution times is hard to understand. What happened that time was that because people thought Shah (the king) was wrong, whatever thing he said, did or endorsed was evil after he relinquished the thrown and what was more conspicuous than the US embassy; his biggest ally?
The surprise is that the key figures in that event have been transformed greatly into reformists and very much pro-western, as it seems. Yet, many of those who did not have any role in that part are the biggest voices in repeating slogans against the US in Friday prayers.

This recent propaganda about Ahmadi Nejad's photo taken during hostage crisis does not mean anything to me because it does not mean anything really. It does not mean that Iran is now a bigger enemy for the US even if the allegation is true(?). I think this media attention is only there to make another dangerous figure within the Middle East in the minds of Americans. I am wondering why the media attention was not attracted when Khatami the mild-moderate figure selected this lady as his deputy and this man as his minister while they both were among the true hostage takers.

I wish that dark day would be replaced in our history together with the day in which America helped a coupe against Mosadegh and removed one of the most democratic governments of all times in Iran. I hate radical actions from anyone.

Perhaps these propaganda (that AN was a former hostage-taker)are being spread to put pressure on Iran!!?? If Bush's popularity was not going down so low or if the situation in Iraq was under controlled, then I could've guessed or said that all these tactics were being used to sanction Iran through UN or declare war against her. Huh! who knows!? Only time will say.

These are all such sad news whether true or false: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,161419,00.html (the allegation is that AN is responsible for slaying of Kurdish Resistance Leaders in Austria; proofs claimed by Austrian Gov't). You must have also heard the news the Iran has created quite a chaos in Belgium over the refusal of shaking hands with women MPs and not allowing Belgian leaders to drink alchohol over lunch.

These news are sad because all these politicians (not just Iranians) all over the world do all these stupid things and put their countries in mess and bring such negative images for their countries and citizens. But hopefully all these internet/world-connections/blogging will help us common citizens to unite and realize that whatever some dumb politicians/religious-leaders do - those don't reflect the true aspirations or nature of its citizens or the followers of that religion.

Thank you for the comment. You have a nice blog.

Hallo Mr. Behi,

Quite possible that the present mixture between fundamentalists and reformists in your country is a kind of godsend, meaning a big chance to learn something. In the United States those Christian hardliners showed everyone to what extremes fanatics can go and what huge amount of mess they are able to create. When a majority of Iranians get the same message in their brains and their hearts - that religion is a private affair and should only be about tolerant goodness - then you all have a true chance to
evolve into something better.

Georg

I don't much about Iranian culture/politics, but I very much agree with whatever Georg wrote. It's not only true about Iran or the USA, but for all over the world. Religion or our relation with God/Spritualism should be a very personal thing, like our relation with our parents, spouses, children. I don't understand why some people all over the world wants to make that very private thing into a public thing!!!
