Why US does not want to lead the war against global warming?

BBC NEWS Science/Nature Future climate talks deal agreed

That is strange to see that the Bush administration claims to be working towards world peace and at the same time rejected the international requests for joining the Kyoto agreement for reducing greenhouse gases. They are very busy smoking out Bin-Laden from his caves in Afghanistan so they are forgetting this fact that this smoke may cause their own lovely Alaska to melt down! They are trying to inject democracy to the Middle-Esat but do not care if some of the small nations in Australasia disappear from the maps as a result of sea level rise. Mr. Behi has always admired American leadership in science and research and the way this mature management has been bringing together all the mean for the advancement of science and technology that helps all the human beings. The strange thing is that US urges other nations to corporate whenever he likes (post war Iraq) but when it comes to accepting the requests from other nations, there it comes the No, No from the US! Anyway, why US, China and Russia do not sign the treaty against land mines??

New: look at the comments for a very rational answer for this question. Thanks Emory!
